If you are ever in Durango, CO you must eat at the Sizzling Siam. I’m not kidding, it is THE best Thai food. It’s located at the end of Main Avenue (near the train station).
Their pad thai is good. Their Massaman curry is real good. It’s the cutest little place with the best atmosphere, and the food is cheap. What more could you ask for?

We went on a bike ride the other day, and I was thinking and wondering… If you deny that the Gospel needs to be contextualized today (some are even going so far as to compare the contextualization of the Gospel to syncretism), then, aren’t you also implying that the context of the Gospel story when it occurred is somewhat irrelevant? And that the time, place and people of the story are somewhat arbitrary? But if the context of the story isn’t arbitrary, and the time, place and people within it do matter, then as the Gospel story continues to unfold throughout history, why all of the sudden would the time, place and people cease to matter in the living and telling of this story?

I watched this amazing documentary on The Learning Channel a while back about a Moroccan woman whose fetal baby died in her womb at 7 months and remained there for 46 years after that.
She was afraid (of dealing with the death of her child? Of the danger or pain that she would have to go through?) so she just left the baby there, because the fear had left her paralyzed and unable to act. Eventually, which was 46 years later, the calcified baby had to be removed, and she inevitably had to confront that which she was unable to nearly half a century earlier.
It’s like the story of Jonah: whose running and bucking at God didn’t change what God required of him, it only interrupted his obedience and growth. He was only postponing the inevitable.
Some people run from ministries, friendships, jobs, and places because of hurt feelings and disappointment, only to get their feelings hurt the next time, and be disappointed at the next and the next place, because they never stopped and learned what God wanted them to learn and they never became the people God intended them to be.
I’m starting to think that the circumstances in life (good or bad) are nearly irrelevant when compared to being a submissive student under the master teacher (regardless of the circumstances). He says that if we take his yoke upon us and let him teach us, then we will find rest for our souls. I think this means that while we will never find real peace striving to make are circumstances the best they can be by avoiding and running from the unpleasant, that his controversial training methods, and the laws of his kingdom, will be like honey to our lips, if we will but submit to them.

July was a crazy month! First, my Aunt Ginger came to visit for a week. Then, my parents came to visit for a week. And then, while up at Whispering Pines directing Middle school camp, we found out that my dad had been in a terrible accident. He had been hit by a truck while out on his bike (exactly a week after they left us!). So, I came to Hattiesburg, MS where my dad is still in the ICU, and Brian stayed to direct high school camp by himself the following week. After camp was over this past Saturday, he was able to come out here too. But all this in one little month?! Crazy, like we didn’t really have a July. Oh! Hello! August is here, and we are in Hattiesburg, MS sitting in a hospital waiting room.

Edit
According to my brother-in-law, I was talking in my sleep one night saying, “Everything is cool, I’m chill…” and then hugging my pillow saying, “I love you, Jesus.”
Re-edit
It is supposed to be a secret, but nobody reads our blog anyway, so: My little sister is PREGNANT! WHOO! If you are reading this… Shhhh…
